A girl of sixteen years came to her grandma for advice. " Grandma please help me. I feel so fed up.
It seems that there is never enough time to get things done. If I have this problem now , what will
I do when I am an adult, married with children of my own? What advice can you give me about
time management?"
Grandma gave her a big hug and said," Come to the kitchen table sweetie, I will show you."
The girl followed her grandma to the kitchen table and watched in dismay. First, grandma set out
two tall wide pots of identical size and shape. Then, she set out two piles of beautiful marble balls.
Each pile contained 36 marble balls of identical size and shape. Finally, she set two bags of flour on the kitchen table. Each bag of flour weighed exactly five pounds.
Grandma instructed her granddaughter to fill one pot with 36 marbles. "Is there room for the flour?," Grandma asked. "Yes," said the girl. "Fill the pot with a five pound bag of flour," said grandma.
The girl did as instructed. "What did you learn about time management," asked grandma.
" There is always time to do more...is that the right answer grandma?," the girl asked.
" Before I give you the answer fill the other pot first with the flour and then try and put the marbles in. See what happens," grandma instructed.
"Only some of the marbles fit on top of the flour, there is no more room.," said the girl.
" Come here sweetie," grandma said as she hugged her granddaughter. "The lesson is that if we
first fill our day full of big beautiful important things, there will be ample time to get other things done also. But if we fill our days and lives with 'other things,' we will always feel unfulfilled, frustrated, and incomplete. The hard part is figuring out what those big important things are. Does this help answer your question?," grandma asked.
"Yes, you are the best grandma. Thanks."
Consider that just 16 minutes a day of exercise can keep you fit, and feeling more energized.
Try it. It really works.
